Are we hiding behind a fig leaf?

In the book of Genesis the Bible says "And the Lord God commanded the man, 'You are free to eat from any tree in the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die' " Genesis 2:16-17 (NIV). Then In the book of Genesis chapter 3, we see Adam and Eve allowed satan to deceive them. They partook of fruit from the tree that God commanded them to not partake of. After partaking of the fruit, the Bible says...

"Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as He was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden" Genesis 3:7-8 (NIV)

So many times when we fail the temptation is to cover ourselves with fig leaves like Adam and Eve and hide from God. Today these fig leaves can represent what we consider to be good works, something to dull the pain, trusting in our church membership instead of Christ Himself, or anything else that keeps us from running to God directly for His covering over us. This true covering is Jesus Christ and the Redemptive power of His blood through genuine repentance to Him. And this is not a one time thing. This can be for someone that may have gone to church all their lives and never has taken the time to repent and ask Jesus in their heart as his or her personal Savior and Lord to be born again, or this can even apply to someone who has been a Christian for years who satan would tempt to stray away from continual genuine repentance and begin to trust in their works for God rather than in Christ Himself.

The Bible says "Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature." Romans 13:14 (NIV).

Clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ. He Alone is our true covering for sin. Let's not be temped to cover ourselves with anything else but Christ Himself. Let's daily take time on our knees to lift our hands to Jesus and praise Him, repent of our sins, and talk to Him. He loves us so much and doesn't want us to hide in any way from Him. He already knows our faults and wants to help us where we are weak because He loves us. He knows what's best for us and will help us overcome to do God's will.

Let's develop a personal relationship with God through prayer and listen to what the Holy Spirit says to our hearts, and do what He is leading us to do on the inside. He will guide us in all the things we need help with in life. Only Jesus is our true covering!
